ondoy - DAY 7. visit to manalo bridge

There are now 7 or 8 families from the bridge who are without a home. Funny, I would’ve considered them homeless even before. But now, they no longer have the little bit of shelter offered by their make-shift homes because they were carried away by the raging river last Saturday night. We plan to help them buy materials to rebuild, but we are going to wait out this next storm first. In the meantime, they are staying with their neighbors and family.
We knew the first batch of rice Sean dropped off on Tuesday would not last long, so today, he and Christian made a trip to the grocery store and bought more food, this time enough to last the 20 or so families there a little bit longer. They packed into our van about 250 Kilos of rice and various canned goods, dried fish, etc. Even though we did not get to divide everything up ahead of time, our friends seemed to do a pretty good job working together to evenly distribute it all. They even had some leftover (that they could no longer divide fairly) . . . so they were trying to return it to Sean. It wasn’t much, but Sean advised them to just give it away to someone else in need, just as God was giving to them in their own time of need. He lovingly shares with us, its a great way to show our gratitude to Him by sharing also with others.
